Posted by Ahmed Mahdy on June 14, 2006

Posted by: Ahmed Mahdy

Hey! Nice for me to investigate broadband ISPs in Egypt. They’re 8 authorized to present ADSL services and here an overview analysis of them based on a strategy I created to inform The National Telecom Regularity Authority “NTRA” about them:

1- EgyNet “Government ISP”:

Operation: Service is so bad, many disconnections and service failure and DNS errors,

Coverage: All Cities are available to be connected to the service.

Customer Service , Technical Support & HR: Bad, need more practicing for communication skills and general protocols.

Website Services: Very bad static

Offers and Ads.: Never heard of it.

2- Yalla :

Operation: Service is reliable more than the above in addition of some DNS failure.

Coverage: Resellers in cities out of Cairo and Alexandria make service so expensive,

Customer Service , Technical Support & HR: Employees are so bad “not well practiced or civilized”, need much practice for general protocols.

Website Services: Normal- Almost static

Offers and Ads.: Never heard of it.

3- Noor :

Operation: Their web servers are not well protected at least by Anti-SPAM filter for their employees (Just human monitoring for e-mails), service is good and fast continuous.

Coverage: Service coverage is limited to Cario, Alexandria and some other big cities via resellers, Customer Service , Technical Support & HR: Perfect, so arranged team system but a bit conceited.

Website Services: Very good- Interactive with some bugs.

Offers and Ads.: Never heard of it.

4- LinkdotNET: 1st ISP in Egypt, since 1992

Operation: Fast continuous speed, no much failures, however,

Coverage: Limited for some big cities.

Customer Service , Technical Support & HR: Perfect, no notes.

Website Services: Very Good- Interactive.

Offers and Ads.: Very good, at least weekly 2 or 3 ads. in newspaper or TV.

5- Nile On Line:

Operation: Service is so bad, many disconnections and service failure and DNS errors,

Coverage: All Cities are available to be connected to the service.

Customer Service , Technical Support & HR: Never heard of them.

Website Services: Site is static- Non interactive.

Offers and Ads.: Never heard about it.

6- TEData:

Operation: Highest bandwidth available, fast and continuous, no failures.

Coverage: Cairo and Alexandria and some big cities.

Customer Service , Technical Support & HR: Very good, need a bit of high rank protocol practice.

Website Services: Very good- Interactive.

Offers and Ads.: Very fantastic , weekly at least an ad on TV or newspaper 2 times.

7- MenaNet:

Operation: Good.

Coverage: Cairo and Alexandria and some big cities.

Customer Service , Technical Support & HR: Good.

Internet down? Thank Microsoft and the demand for Vista Beta 2!

Posted by gamerzworld on June 10, 2006

According to Bink.nu Microsoft has told the Windows Featured Communities that the demand for Windows Vista Beta 2 has been overwhelming.  It is, in fact, the largest downloaded software in history.
Currently, they are serving product keys out ten times faster then the downloads can be served.  In fact, they are pumping out bits as fast as they can – any faster and there would be a measurable impact on the internet.  In fact, I quote a Microsoft representive:

"So, we are literally saying that if we increased our bandwidth any further there's a possibilty of taking down the Internet – people might have problems with World Cup viewing, etc"

People who have recieved Vista Beta 2 product keys, but are unable to download, may need to wait a few days, up to one week.  Microsoft encoruages users who want to try out Windows Vista Beta 2 to order the DVD.  When they recieve the DVD in 1-4 weeks, install it, and activate it, they will be automattically guaranteed an RC1 upgrade.
